You can be late for a heart transplant or a car rental or a hair appointment but as a wedding photographer you can never be a minute late. Never without exception, never, no not even a second late, never ever. Always be early is our motto.
So I’m looking out the window taking it all in, I mean it’s Waimea Big Island and on this day I’m looking at a bright blue sky on top of bright green grassy fields with fluffy white clouds above and framed by old lava rock walls… simply stunning.
I got Google directions in hand and see a school coming up, great I’m not lost. As directed I take the left then a right, nothing but solid green pastures, no curbs and no address numbers…., then I see it, Boom! The big white party tent, sticking out like a sore thumb in the middle of this green pasture. I’ve got plenty of time with being 30 minutes early so I pull in, park, grab my gear and head for the decorated wedding arch set up with 50 chairs. I must be really really early – there is no one in sight.
I got my shots from every angle including their sign-in table with monogramed party favors and the Groom & Bride’s master table with a big banner “Kimo & Loriann” – well my groom and bride are named Ama & Amber. OH Damn!
A farm worker tells me I’m at the wrong wedding, mine is up the road a couple acres, “just look for a big white tent”. Thanks.
I made it in the nick of time to shoot the beautiful bride before she walked down the aisle in the big bright green pasture.
What are the odds? Never Ever Late.
