Roasted Hump

It’s coffee time again in Kona, big red cherries weighting down the branches waiting to be picked and hauled off to the mills for roasting; dark or medium. Pickers will be arriving with the dawn of the day ready to take on acres of red cherries. Cold with clouds of rain, hot and dry, spiders, fruit flies and ants, all in the same day ending after sunset.
With sugarcane and pineapple leaving the Islands economy, coffee is one of the only agricultural products left to provide labor for the farm workers. Kona folks are quite proud of our 100 % Kona Coffee, please always ask “Is this 100% Kona Coffee”, yes there is a big difference.
Old-timers (Kapuna) say it is the volcanic soil that creates the quality of this 100% American made coffee.
We are waiting to hear if Kona coffee is being served at the White House any day now.
Happy Hump Day!
