Elvis loves avocados

Elvis loves avocados.
Elvis cruises out on the farm to hunt and comes marching back with his fresh catch, a delightful fresh avocado in his mouth.
Weeks later our neighbor Douglas of Lehua Gardens farm comes by on his orange tractor, a big dark skinned avocado in his hand. I’m thinking “what a beauty, the size of a softball”, yum yum.
Then he asked if Elvis likes avos? And I thought it was for us, a bit cautious I say, “yes he does”. I thought he might, he says.
You see, for the past 30 years I’ve been farming I always count how many avocados have dropped on the ground below the big tree, when it gets to 6 or 7, I know it’s time to pick the whole crop. This year I noticed it never got past 3. When I looked up the tree they were all gone.
He loves Elvis, so this year Elvis gets his own personally delivered.
According to the “Doctor of Fruit” Ken Love, today there are over 200 varieties of this precious fruit on the Big Island of Hawaii.
They arrived with the big sailing ships as seeds over 220 years ago. Possibly in the 1790s from Captain Don Francisco de Paula Marin. More on him later.

Hope you enjoyed your Hump day story.

P.S Not sure if the real Elvis Presley liked Avocados? But this one does, especially if grown on the Big Island!
