For those who did not know – yes, there is snow in Hawai’i. This photo comes to you from 13,796 ft atop the most sacred of mountains Mauna Kea (White Mountain), on a freezing sunny morning on the Big Island. It was Kodak back then, so I had to make each shot count while lying on my back in the icy snow under a 5’ ski jump without a snowsuit.
I’m looking up at the bluest sky on earth, soaked from head to toe, giving me uncontrollable shakes. I couldn’t see the boarders until they were air born above me, so I listened for the adrenaline fueled “Ya hoos!” to time my shot, after many many many misses – I made one keeper.
Happy Hump Day!
