Hawaii’s beautiful Christmas trees aren’t pine or fir. They are the “Hawaiian Snow bush” (Breynia Nivosa). It is an island plant originally from the southern islands. Its leaves turn white in winter for a short time giving it the appearance of being covered in snow. A rare site in Hawaii.
The Poinsettia grows to be 16 feet or more and flowers bright red from November to when it gets a bit warmer. Originally introduced by Joel Robert Poinsett from somewhere around Mexico in 1825.
The Hawaiian name is Pua Kalikimaka which translates to Christmas flower.
Enjoy your Hump Day.
